OE5TXF operated CQWW-160-CW 2024 in "High-Power Assisted" from near Wels in Upper Austria.
Total operating time in the CQWW-160 Contest was just under twenty hours.
Overslept and started late at 0100z on Saturday (should have started at 2200z on Friday!) then operated throughout the rest of the first night until about 0800z. Sunrise in OE5 was at 0630z.
On Saturday evening returned to operating the CQWW-160 Contest at 1500z, but then went QRT from 2300z until 0330z.
On Sunday morning there was no dawn opening to speak of. In fact it was peculiarly flat around dawn. Just after my sunrise I could barely hear P40AA working some EUs, but OE5TXF was not being heard in Aruba.
Started the final session on Sunday evening at 1700z and went QRT soon after 2100z, hitting a round number of 830 QSOs.
The 2024 QSO total (830) was less than in the three previous CQWW-160m operations from OE5TXF :
2021 : 964 QSOs
2022 : 1,158 QSOs (the best year so far)
2023 : 862 QSOs
2024 : 830 QSOs
This year's best QSO rate was during the first two hours 0100z and 0200z, peaking at 99 QSOs/hr in 0200z. After the first two hours, it was rapidly downhill on the QSO rate.
Most of the operating throughout the contest was in Search & Pounce mode with only a few short sessions CQing.
Conditions seemed generally poor throughout the contest. Never heard a JA (not even JA3YBK or JH4UYB).
Only 14 W/VE Multipliers were among the 21 W stations and 5 VE stations worked:
W1: CT, MA, ME, NH, W2: NJ, NY, W3: DE, PA, MD, W4: FL, VA, W7: UT.
VE: QC and ON.
The "DX heard, but not worked" list or more probably the "DX spotted, but not audible" list included : 3A2MD, A71WW, DV3A, HL5IVL, HS5NMF, JA3YBK/JH4UYB, KP2M, KP4AA, MI4I, OH0Z, P40AA, PJ2T, SV9DJO, TF3SG, V31MA, VK2GR, ZF5T and ZL3IO.
No GW station was spotted, heard or worked during the 20 hours of my activity in CQ-WW-160m in 2024!
