OE5TXF in CQWW-CW Contest: Nov 2023

SOSB 40m HP (A) : 1,990 QSOs : 33z : 118c : 464,778 points

This was the fourth year in succession that G3TXF entered CQWW-CW as OE5TXF.

This year it was a single-band 40m entry using a simple vertical wire dipole tapped to a 15m Spiderpole. There were no radials. The lower half of the vertical dipole was pulled away at an angle from the pole.

The 40m antenna at OE5TXF is a simple vertical dipole tapped to a 18m Spiderpole. Checking the SWR before the Contest showed that the resonant frequency was good enough. The antenna was fed through a tuner.    G3TXF has been operating from Austria as OE5TXF for just over three years and that now includes four CQWW CW Contests. Many other contests have been entered. The OE5TXF QSO total is now over 156,000.

N1MM reports that OE5TXF was QRV on 40m for forty-two hours out of the 48 hours. This feels about right as I had a three-hour snooze early on the second night, as well as several meal breaks over the weekend. The highest QSO rates were during 06z and 07z on Saturday morning. Peak rate was 142 Q/hr.

CQWW CW has always been the “greatest contest in the year”. And so it remains......

G3TXF has participated in the CQWW-CW Contest in 54 out of the past 58 years !
