A superb winter sunset over the sea during CQWW CW 2017.
2017 CQWW CW Contest : 40m Single-Band "Assisted" by (but in many instances "Irritated" by ! ) Packet Cluster and Skimmer.

As the same rotary 40m dipole antenna had been used in both CQWW RTTY in September and CQWW SSB in October, there was not much antenna preparation work needed for CQWW CW in November other than to wind up the tower with the 40m antenna on the Friday afternoon before the contest.

Pre-Contest preparation in the shack had been concluded early so I was able to get a pre-contest sleep starting at about 6pm on the Friday, waking up some 30 minutes before the start of the contest at 0000z.

The first hour of the contest was quite slow as I was calling stations rather than battling to find a clear frequency to call CQ on.

There were just two one-hour periods (22z and 23z on the Saturday) when there were no QSOs made. This was a two-hour sleep at the end of the first day.

There had also been an earlier one-hour snooze period between 08z and 09z on theSaturday, Otherwise there was activity throughout the contest.

The total operating time was about 43 hours (out of the 48).

A single rotary dipole at 25m high was used for the three (RTTY, SSB and CW) CQWW Contests in 2017.
Known missed Multipliers included : 9K2HN, DU1SDT, GD4EIP, GJ (so where was Jersey on 40m in CQWW CW?), V47T etc etc
USA were 22% of all QSOs. It was a nice surprise to work 53 JAs. Also nine BYs.
G3TXF has participated in CQWW-CW in 47 out of the past 50 years !
