G3TXF operated "40m SOSB Assisted" from the Devon "Field-Day" location with a rotary 40m dipole at 80ft.

The claimed score (952,648) was just ahead of that achieved two years ago in 2017 (916,032). The number of Countries worked was identical at 154. However this year there was one more Zone worked, totally 39 Zones. In 2017 38 Zones were worked (with z34 and z36 missing). This year, nothing was heard or seen from "Zone 34", my one missing zone.

Despite my best intention to try to stay awake the full 48 hours, I just had to have a three hour sleep during the second night. Ended up operating for about 44 hours out of the 48.

The number of Ws worked (643) was slightly up on 2017 (633), but the number of JAs was down to 41 from 53.
One Zone missed on 40m: Zone 34.
A comparative analysis of the 40m station at the Multi-Multi M6T showed that between us, we worked 160 Countries on 40m. M6T worked six Countries that G3TXF did not : 9L, EL, FK, FR, HL and YS, whereas G3TXF worked two Countries that M6T did not : HH and OD. We both worked 39 Zones (missing z34).

Three further Countries that G3TXF knows he missed were 3D2AG, 5R8VX and Z61DX.
The Opti-Beam OB-40-1 single band dipole needed extending by about 2x10cm to match nicely on 40m CW.
There was a three and a half hour rest period between between 00z and 04z. Unfortunately, despite the best of intentions, G3TXF was unable to stay awake the full forty-eight hours of the CQWW CW Contest. Actual operating time was about forty-four hours.
G3TXF has participated in CQWW-CW in 49 out of the past 52 years !
