OE5TXF operated "80m SOSB Assisted Low Power" from near Wels in Upper Austria..

An 80m vertical (on an 18m Spiderpole) was installed for CQWW-CW. The current OE5TXF QTH is located on the side of quite a steep hill (and is also in a slight dip). However on the plus side, the ground is wet clay. A relatively small number (17) of short radials were laid out for the 80m vertical.

As operating in the CQWW-CW contest was to be without an amplifier, it was decided to go after the current 80m SOSB (A) Low Power record in Austria. The requisite number of Mults were worked already during the first night. However chasing Mults on LF without an amplifier can be really hard work.

Useful multipliers worked included z02/VE2IM, z06/XE2X, z07/TI7W, z08/KP3DX, z09/P40W, z13/CW5W, z19/RT0C, z21/T6A, z22/8Q7ZO, z25/JA7ZFN, z35/5T3WW and z40/TF3SG.

Several significant Mults heard but not worked included A45XR, A65BB, A71EM, FY5KE, JW7GIA, PX2A/z11, SV5DKL and VK6LW/z29. RT0C provided a welcome Zone 19 and it was a nice surprise to be called by JA7ZFN for the one and only JA/z25 QSO!

The Continental break-down was

EUROPE : 89%

N.AMERICA : 8%

ASIA : 2%

AFRICA : 0.5%

Nobody worked in OCEANIA

Total operating time was about twenty-eight hours. Operated throughout the first night. Had a lengthy dinner break on Saturday evening and a further sleeping break of about nearly five hours during the second night, but was back on again for the five hours up 09z in the morning. Operated again from sunset on Sunday through to the end of the contest at 2400z.
