EU Field Day / NFD 2002 : GU0AAA/p

1 - 2 June 2002

In 2002 the Three A's Contest Group continued on their round-Britain Field Day excursion and operated from Guernsey as GU0AAA/p.

The location was near Fort Doyle on the North-Eastern most point of Guernsey Island.

The photo shows Roger G3SXW and Ian G3WVG operating. The Three A's Contest Group is a three man team. The third member [Nigel G3TXF] is symbolically represented in this photo by the mug of tea.

GU0AAA/p operated from a rental van parked on common land near Fort Doyle.

A 3kW generated purred effortlessly throughout the 24-hour operation. There was also a standby generator available which was not needed. The rig was an FT-1000-MP

The GU0AAA/p Field Day equipment was transported in a trailer.

The weather was excellent through the entire weekend except for one torrential down-pour about one hour before the end of the contest. GU0AAA/p was off the air for about 15 mins because of the local thunder and lightning.

During our brief visit to Guernsey we met several of the local HF'ers and Contesters including Bob GU4YOX, Mike GU4EON, Phil GU0SUP and Paul GU4YBW.

We also received a visit at our Field Day site from local DX'er Colin MU0FAL seen here talking to Roger G3SXW and Ian G3WVG.

The local GARS club were also taking part in Field Day as GU3HFN/p doing a single-band entry on 20m.

GU0AAA/p ended the Field Day operation with 1,122 QSOs, which was the highest QSO totals we have ever made in many years of participating in HF Field Day.

We submitted our log to both the RSGB for the UK's National Field Day (NFD) and also to the DARC as an entrant in the European (IARU Region 1) HF CW Field Day.
