G3TXF : CQWW RTTY Contest : Sep 2007 : 20m SOSB
Late September sunset (fractionally south of west) over the sea, through the trees during the CQWW RTTY Contest weekend. Sunset reflected in a window with a 3el 20m yagi on an 80ft crank-up tower for CQWW RTTY Contest 2007.
RYRYRYRY ... this was G3TXF's first entry in a major RTTY contest. To keep things simple the entry was single-band 20m. On both days the first QSO was around 06z and the last QSO just after 23z. Total operating time was 32 hours. Conditions were generally quite poor, but with the Sunday fractionally better than the Saturday. However the afternoon QSO rates to North America were lower on Sunday than Saturday, probably because new stations were not available. 449 different W/VE stations were worked but there were some serious gaps in the W7 and W0 multipliers. VE4 (MB) and VE5 (SK) remained as elusive as ever.

The top-20 QSO countries are shown in this table with the non-EU totals in bold. JA with only 9 QSOs did not make it into this table.......

The excellent graphs produced by Win-Test show that the QSO distribution for the two days were broadly similar with the first QSO on both days just around 06z/07z. The final QSO on each day was just after 23z by which time 20m was pretty well dead. RTTY QSO rates were not high. The best hour was only 73. However things would probably speed up if there were a few more sunspots around!
