OH0TXF - WPX-CW-Contest - May 2025

Thanks to Martti OH2BH, Pertti OH2PM, Pekka OH2TA and Veijo OH6KN for making possible my short visit to OH0 Åland and for the CQ-WPX-CW Contest operation as OH0TXF.

The OH0B-OH0M-OH0R-OH0T and OH0X contest station is on Brändö on the eastern edge of the 6,000 islands/islets Åland archipelago.

The journey from the OH Finnish mainland to Brändö in the Åland Islands (OH0) requires two separate car ferries.

Pertti OH2PM (OG2P) was most helpful during the Åland OH0 visit. The OH0B station is in a cosy hut surrounded by three 42m towers.

The shorter of the two car ferries needed to get to Brändö island. Each of the three 42m high towers is fully rotatable from the base.

Plaques tell operators which antennas are on towers A, B and C. The Yaesu FT-DX-5000 is an excellent contest work-horse radio.

Operators can easily switch between antennas with a key-pad. OH0TXF made 5,600 CW QSOs : CQ-WPX-CW 3,100 + WARC 2,500

Station fully designed for SO2R, but OH0TXF stuck to simpler SO1R! DX-Log contest software was used in this Single Operator entry.

Antennas include 2el yagis for 40m and 80m. Neat extraction system keeps shack cool. All towers use powerful base rotators.

Visit to the Martti OH2BH home station in Espoo.

Separate control units for each of the three towers. Martti OH2BH's fully remotable SO2R contest installation.

Return journey : two ferries, car, train and plane.

There are over 6,000 islands and islets in the Åland islands. Pertti OH2PM on the car deck of the inter-island ferry.

Pertti OH2PM kindly drove me from the OH0 contest station, taking the two car ferries. He then drove me to Turku station from where I took the train back to Helsinki and to the airport for the flight back home after a magnificent weekend in the Åland Islands operating as OH0TXF.

. Finally : one callsign not to miss for the log : "OJUI" on the car ferry!

Gennady UX5UO is already printing the QSLs.....
